Tell us about yourself. 

I am from Scranton, Pennsylvania (yes, as in The Office) and I am a junior in the UConn College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources. I am an Allied Health Sciences major with a concentration in Health Sciences and also an English minor. My transfer story is an interesting one as I got accepted into UConn the week before classes started the second semester of my freshman year in college. So yes, I understand how the transfer process could be daunting and intimidating. Besides school, I like to take pictures of things, write for fun, listen to music, snowboard, play soccer, play baseball, and row boats! Also, my top three favorite artists are Chance the Rapper, The Avett Brothers, and The Lumineers.

What is your favorite spot on campus?

I fell in love with the garden in the courtyard behind the Benton Museum and in front of Wilbur Cross. Sit on one of the benches there on a nice day when the flowers and nature are blooming and you will understand why.

What do you love most about being a UConn student?

Although there are many valuable reasons for coming to UConn and becoming a student, one major reason I love being a UConn student is being a part of the school pride that is nationally recognized. Because I did not have this at my previous institution, it is one of the most rewarding feelings to be in a completely different state and see your school on television or being talked about in a news article, especially concerning the women’s basketball team! I love being able to say “that’s my school" - it is a sense of pride that makes me proud that I got accepted into this institution.

What is your best advice for a UConn transfer student?

The best piece of advice I could give to a UConn transfer student is to not expect friends to come to you, but to put yourself out of your comfort zone and into situations to meet potential new best friends. Challenge yourself and be daring! Incorporating yourself into established friend groups can be difficult and awkward but joining clubs you are even slightly interested in helps introduce you to new people. Whether you think you might or might not like the club, join anyways. You never know what you might genuinely enjoy until you try it and commit to it!
